Horse riding is great for Cody as he gets the chance to get out of his wheelchair, stretch his body and have some fun. Cody has 3 regular volunteers who help him by leading the horse and walking beside him. Cody and his coach Gaye are currently working on stretching his legs to relax his muscles. This is both very therapeutic and tiring for Cody.To support this rider and donate towards the McIntyre Centre’s programs please click here For riders who have a physical disability which prevents them from walking independently horse riding offers a unique was of strengthening and stretching their ‘walking muscles’. The natural rhythm of a horse at walk, allows the rider to experience a 3 dimension movement in the pelvis – rotational, forwards and backwards, and side to side. This engages the same muscles that are used for walking. Riders benefit by improved posture, balance, muscle strength, tone, coordination, mobility and flexibility.
